Individual state laws for tattoo artists, tattoo shops and body piercing are changing. Some pending legislations, if passed, could require:
• Registering with local health departments and bi-annual inspections.
• Courses in bloodborne pathogens and tattoo infection control.
• Current Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
• Apprenticeship programs with mandated hours of hands-on-experience.
• American Red Cross First Aid Certification.
Many states are passing new legislation for the Tattoo and Body Piercing Industry. These new laws will help to further protect the general public, the tattoo artist and the body piercer performing the work and create a higher level of standards for the industry. States that previously outlawed tattooing, have now passed statutes to allow it. Hopefully this will bring many underground tattoo shops above ground. Even individual state blood donor programs will benefit from the new laws as well.
Are you looking for a tattoo apprenticeship program, or do you already have a portfolio and the skills needed to be a tattoo artist?
